Prevalence
- Depression is a very prevalent disorder - 9.5% of the general
population in any given year has depression. Each year 7.2% of
employees suffer an episode of depression.
- The incidence of depression
is even higher in people with medical illness. Depression is
often a co-morbid condition of heart disease, diabetes, cancer
and stroke.
- When depression co-exists with another
medical condition, the cost of treating the medical condition
increases significantly.
- Clinical depression is currently the leading cause of disability
in North America.

for employees with depression is 37-48%
